I was unable to download any drivers from synaptics, Microsoft, or HP. Whenever I tried to download from HP, I was asked to download and run programs for HP to determine my system, hardware, and programs.
Therefore, I was not able to download drivers from HP, or do anything else. I went to Microsoft and attempted to run several Fix It programs, synaptics touchpad driver windows 7 download.
I don't know what that is or how to fix it. I did download and run a Microsoft Diagnostic Tool program. It ran but nothing that I could tell was fixed or changed. FYI a quick update. After much work on the HP site, I was still not able to install their hardware and software dection programs. Seems to be working well but will need a little more time to see if that cured the pointer freezing problem. However, if you still have the issues that you mentioned above, did your HP laptop come with a recovery partition? If so, you should be able to reset factory defaults and restore the laptop to how you first got it when purchased.
